How should screwdriver dimensions be inspected?
Screwdriver dimensions should be inspected by comparing the finished product against the approved drawing, specification sheet, and tolerance requirements.
We recommend checking:
Overall length: total screwdriver length from handle to tip
Handle diameter and width: especially important for grip, case fit, and assembly
Shaft diameter and length
Bit dimensions: tip width, thickness, diameter, hex size, or specialty profile
Bit insertion depth: for magnetic or quick-change holders
Case and tray dimensions: important for retail packaging and accessory positioning
Critical assembly dimensions: gaps, clearances, connector fit, and component alignment
USB port position and opening size: for electric screwdriver models
Button, display, and LED positions
Battery or internal component space: when dimensional accuracy affects assembly
Common inspection tools include:
Digital caliper: for most external dimensions
Micrometer: for smaller or tighter-tolerance dimensions
Height gauge: for accurate height or positional measurements
Pin gauges or plug gauges: for holes and internal diameters
Go/No-Go gauges: useful for repetitive production inspection
Profile projector or vision measuring system: for precision bit tips and complex shapes
For screwdriver bits, dimensional inspection should not only measure the outside size. Tip geometry and fit with the target screw are equally important, especially for Pentalobe, Torx, Tri-point, Phillips, and other precision profiles.
The buyer should define which dimensions are critical, major, and reference-only, together with the acceptable tolerance for each one. Critical dimensions should normally be checked more frequently during production.
