How long does custom packaging add to the production lead time?
Custom packaging usually adds about 5–10 working days after the final artwork, structure, and printing details are approved.
A practical guide is:
Custom printed paper box: about 5–10 working days
Custom sleeve or label: about 3–7 working days
EVA or molded internal tray: about 7–15 working days
Custom aluminum or special storage case: about 10–20 working days
New plastic case requiring a mold: typically much longer because tooling is required
The lead time can increase if the buyer changes:
Packaging dimensions
Artwork or logo
Pantone colors
Barcode or SKU information
Warning labels
Instruction manual
Internal tray layout
Accessories or bit configuration
For OEM screwdriver orders, packaging should be approved before mass production is close to completion. In many projects, packaging production can run in parallel with screwdriver production, so it does not necessarily add the full packaging lead time to the final delivery date.
For ToolQeen OEM projects, we recommend freezing the box structure, artwork, barcode, labels, manual, tray layout, and packing method before mass production starts, which helps avoid packaging becoming the final delivery bottleneck.
