Can an electric screwdriver use a custom torque program?
Yes. An electric screwdriver can use a custom torque program if the PCB, firmware, motor, and gearbox support the required torque range and control method.
Custom torque programming can include:
Custom torque levels
Number of torque stages
Torque values for each level
Automatic-stop behavior
RPM matched to each torque level
Forward and reverse control
Startup and braking behavior
Current-limit settings
Different operating modes for specific applications
For example, instead of using standard torque levels, an OEM project may require four different values for a specific phone, electronics assembly, or production-line application.
However, torque cannot always be changed by software alone. If the requested torque is outside the existing hardware range, the motor, gearbox ratio, battery, PCB, or mechanical structure may also need to be changed.
