Which screwdriver customizations usually require a new mold?
A new mold is usually required when the customization changes the physical shape, structure, or dimensions of an injection-molded screwdriver part.
Common changes that may require new tooling include:
New handle shape
New plastic housing
Different button or switch structure
New battery compartment
Changed internal mounting points
New case or storage box structure
Different bit tray or accessory layout
New hinge or locking mechanism
Major changes to product dimensions
New ergonomic grip geometry
New structural parts for a completely different product design
A new mold is normally not required for:
Logo laser engraving
Printed branding
Standard color changes
Bit combination changes
Accessory changes
Standard packaging artwork
Barcode and labels
Using an existing case or housing
For electric screwdrivers, changing the torque, RPM, PCB, motor, gearbox, or battery does not automatically require a new mold if all components still fit inside the existing housing. However, if the new components require more internal space or different mounting structures, the housing mold may need to be modified or replaced.
For ToolQeen OEM projects, we recommend using an existing housing and case whenever possible because this reduces tooling cost, sample lead time, and development risk. New molds are more suitable when the buyer needs a clearly different product structure, appearance, or market positioning.
