What compliance documents are needed to import electric screwdrivers into the EU?

For electric screwdrivers imported into the EU, buyers should normally confirm CE documentation, EMC compliance, RoHS compliance, product safety documentation, battery compliance, and EU traceability information.

We recommend checking:

EU Declaration of Conformity: identifies the actual product model and lists the applicable EU legislation and standards

Technical Documentation: including product specifications, drawings, BOM or key components, risk assessment, test reports, and safety information

Machinery compliance: in 2026, applicable powered screwdrivers may still fall under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, which requires technical documentation, conformity assessment, instructions, declaration of conformity, and CE marking. The new Machinery Regulation applies from 20 January 2027.

EMC documentation: rechargeable electric screwdrivers containing electronic control circuits should be evaluated against applicable electromagnetic compatibility requirements

RoHS documentation: confirms compliance with EU restricted-substance requirements for electrical and electronic equipment

Battery compliance: rechargeable lithium batteries must comply with the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, including applicable conformity assessment, technical documentation, EU Declaration of Conformity, CE marking, labeling, and recycling requirements.

UN38.3 Test Summary: required for the lithium battery when the product is transported internationally

User instructions and safety warnings: provided in the appropriate language for the EU country where the product will be sold

Manufacturer and EU importer/responsible-person information: the product must be traceable, and products from manufacturers outside the EU need an EU-based responsible economic operator with the required contact information.

WEEE compliance: electrical and electronic equipment is generally subject to WEEE registration, reporting, recycling, and marking obligations in the EU countries where it is sold.

Battery EPR/registration: the importer or other responsible economic operator should also confirm battery producer-registration obligations in the destination EU country

If the screwdriver includes an AC power adapter, the adapter may require separate LVD and EMC compliance. If it includes Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or another radio transmitter, additional RED compliance should also be evaluated.

For ToolQeen OEM electric screwdriver projects, we recommend locking the model number, motor, PCB, battery, charging system, materials, packaging, and EU importer information before compliance testing, so the CE, RoHS, battery, and technical documentation all match the product that is actually shipped.
