Does an electric screwdriver need RoHS documentation?

Yes. If an electric screwdriver is sold in the EU and falls within the scope of electrical and electronic equipment, it normally needs to comply with the EU RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU.

For a rechargeable electric screwdriver, buyers should normally confirm:

RoHS compliance for the finished product

Material and component declarations for relevant parts such as PCB, solder, cables, plastics, coatings, motor, and electronic components

RoHS test reports or supporting supplier reports when needed

Technical documentation demonstrating compliance; EN IEC 63000:2018 is the harmonised standard commonly used for RoHS technical documentation.

EU Declaration of Conformity, identifying the actual screwdriver model and declaring conformity with the applicable RoHS requirements.

CE marking once conformity with the applicable EU legislation has been demonstrated. RoHS is one of the EU directives that uses the CE-marking system.

A separate third-party “RoHS certificate” is not always legally required. What matters is that the manufacturer has sufficient technical evidence to demonstrate that the finished product complies with the restricted-substance limits. EU manufacturers must prepare technical documentation before placing the product on the market and keep supporting conformity records.

For OEM orders, buyers should also make sure the RoHS documentation matches the actual production model and materials. If the PCB, cable, solder, plastic, coating, battery, or other relevant components are changed after testing, the compliance documentation should be reviewed again.

For ToolQeen electric screwdriver projects, we recommend confirming the final BOM, materials, battery, PCB, model number, and destination market before preparing RoHS and CE documentation, so the compliance file matches the product that is actually shipped.
